Darryl Thompson

Darryl Thompson is a Managing Partner and the Chief Investment Officer of the New Voices Fund. He has over 25 years of investment experience, with an extensive background in funding companies founded by people of color. At New Voices, Mr. Thompson has been engaged in all aspects of the investment process, including origination, due diligence, transaction structuring, financing and monitoring. In the past three years, he has led the structuring and execution of investments in more than 30 companies founded by people of color. 

Prior to New Voices, Mr. Thompson was the Chief Investment Officer for the Sundial Family of Companies (“SFC”), where he responsible for investment activities, including the acquisition of Essence Communications Inc.  Prior to SFC, Mr. Thompson was President of Belenos Capital Management LLC, a black-owned quantitative hedge fund focused on liquid alternative strategies, where he was responsible for strategy, product development, operations and compliance. Prior thereto, Mr. Thompson led investments in the consumer, media, and telecommunications sectors as a Partner at TSG Capital Group, a private equity firm targeting investments in multicultural markets. Mr. Thompson also acted as Special Assistant to Reginald F. Lewis, the Chairman and CEO of TLC Beatrice International Holdings, Inc. He led the corporate development and strategic efforts of TLC Beatrice and the investment efforts of the Lewis family. Mr. Thompson started his career as an Associate in the M&A department of Morgan Stanley.

Mr. Thompson holds an M.B.A. from Stanford University, an M.S. in Technology and Policy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a B.A. in Mathematics and Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
